Bars start at zero and share a scale within each metric. * marks a design target; + marks a lower bound. Historical reference designs are identified in the vehicle profiles. Payloads are published low Earth orbit (LEO) capabilities, not identical mission conditions; orbit, configuration and recovery affect performance. Speed depends on the trajectory and reference frame, so it is not ranked here.

Catalogue coverage & sources

579 launch-vehicle records: all 582 orbital configuration rows in GCAT’s 16 September 2026 snapshot, with ten alias rows consolidated, 19 curated configurations merged and seven additional curated reference records. 19 crewed spacecraft remain in their own tab. This covers 97 family/reference groups across 16 vehicle-origin groups.

GCAT figures are approximate, particularly payload capacity. Recorded year ranges are flight observations, not retirement dates. Unreviewed crew/reuse capabilities and unavailable photographs are labelled. Missiles, sounding rockets, lunar ascent vehicles and every proposed concept are outside this edition’s scope.

Data adapted from GCAT, Jonathan C. McDowell, release 1.8.8, under CC BY. Changes: orbital selection, unit conversions, alias consolidation and curated-source merges. Original manufacturer sources remain in curated profiles.
